Hello, I am the media center teacher. I have been teaching business education/computer classes for 15 years. This is my fourth year here at Resurrection.
The students in grades Pk3 - 7th grade attend class once per week. The students in grades 3 - 7 will work on keyboarding skills to start the year. Next, these students will work on Word documents and perform basic skills using Word. Students in grades 4 - 7 will work in PowerPoint, and grades 6 - 7 will be introduced to Excel. Pk-4 - 2nd grades will develop mouse skills and basic computer skills. K-2nd grade will have an account on the website www.abcmouse.com
. This is an educational program online for children ages 2-7. First and second graders will work in Word and learn basic Word skills (copy/paste, bold, center, clipart, etc.). I also introduce keyboarding skills to 1st and 2nd graders during the year. Students will periodically bring home completed assignments that are printed in the media center. I have put a few educational links on the bottom of this page if students are able to use computers at home and also practice keyboarding skills. Students will also be introduced to computer programming (www.code.org
This year we have a subscription for Brainpop. Brainpop is a group of educational websites with short animated movies for students in grades K-12 together with quizzes and related materials, covering all subjects. The videos and other materials available are designed to engage students and assist teachers; they are aligned to state education standards.
The website and username/password will be given to the students. This will allow them to access the website at home.
All students will have library and will be able to check out books throughout the year. Students were given a library policy page that must be signed by parents and returned to me before they are allowed to check out books. (Grades 3-7) I have attached a copy below. Students will begin to check out books after the Scholastic book fair this year. It will be held the week of October 1-5 during auxiliary class time. A schedule of homeroom times is posted below.
I am looking forward to a great year.
